Surface by Microsoft

Awesome! My day conveniently worked out so that I don’t have work during a live tech event. Today happened to be the reveal of the Surface tablet by Microsoft. Below are my favourite features:
  • Windows 8: This tablet will be running the Windows 8 operating system, which I think is lovely. I’ve always thought Windows 7 tablets were too cluttered, and that Windows 8 was something stupid to have on a PC.
  • Made by Microsoft: So I’m very glad that Microsoft finally came up with their own Windows 8 tablet. Even though Samsung, Motorola, and all those other manufacturers can release one whenever they want, I like the idea that this one was created for and by Microsoft.
  • Kickstand: Love that they included this! It’s bugged me so much that I had to buy a special case for my Kindle Fire for when I needed it to stand. It would’ve bothered me twice as much if I’d bought a more pricey tablet, like an iPad. Stands are something that should be required when designing a tablet for ergonomic purposes. Like, seriously. Who uses tablets facing flat on a table?
  • Keyboard/Cover: I’ve never actually been in the market for an external keyboard in a tablet because I use them mostly for media consumption (Netflix, reading, etc.), but what sold me about this one is that it is already included with the tablet and it doubles as a cover.
Mostly, I’m glad that this tablet makes it so I don’t have to go out of my way to buy a cover, stand, or keyboard. Windows 8 looks lovely on it, and I can’t wait to play with it. However, I’m still left with a few questions.
  • How much does it cost?
  • When can I buy it?
  • Will there be some awesome Xbox integration?
  • What the hell is a Hufflepuff?
